For as long as I can remember I have loved books. I lived in a creaking Victorian house with my mother’s ever-burgeoning book collection, with books EVERYWHERE. Eventually, my Dad bit the bullet and built floor to (very high) ceiling bookshelves. But it still wasn't enough, for every book you took off the shelf, there was one behind. Books in the bedrooms, the kitchen, the bathroom, always several on the go at once. Every evening my Mum or Dad would read to me and my brother and sister from all sorts of books, everything from fairytales to bible stories and poetry.
Always with her finger on the pulse, it was my mother who bought me a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997 for Christmas, before anyone had ever heard of it. I remember eeking out that book, only allowing myself to read one chapter per evening to make it last and thinking there was still enough time for me to get a letter for Hogwarts before I had to go to secondary school.
My letter to Hogwarts never came so I went to my (muggle) school, got a job and forgot all about my childhood book collection.
Then, one hazy, brain-fogged, sleep-deprived morning, whilst pushing my newborn around town I walked into a bookshop and picked up a copy of The Dog’s Summer Ball by Peter Bentley (if you haven’t read it it is hilarious) and it was like a lightbulb switched on in my head, I could start enjoying children’s books again.
So, here we are, six years later and I am passionate about helping parents find joy and connection with their children through books and reading. I love picking the best books (seriously, I LOVE IT) and being able to offer them at great value, so you can fill your home library with the best books without the usual expense.
